March 21 marks World Down Syndrome Day. It is a global awareness day which has been officially observed by the United Nations since 2012. A bit of history: The date for WDSD being the 21st day of the 3rd month was selected to signify the uniqueness of the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome which causes Down syndrome.
On a local level, we are so proud to support The Down Syndrome Guild of Greater Kansas City, a wonderful Kansas City-based organization. We lend support by doing what we know and do best- our work! We are pleased to provide pro-bono work for The Down Syndrome Guild.
Our work comes in the form of creating marketing materials for their fundraising events (like this fabulous upcoming Wine Tasting!) and helping create communications to their donor community. From the organization’s Amy Stoll, “The Sassafras team continues to push the boundaries of creativity while staying true to our mission. They put Down syndrome first. They are constant collaborators and passionate professionals who thrive on brilliant ideas that tell the story.”
Our local KC-based crew will join in on the fun and attend the wine tasting and auction. This year’s event will be April 20 at the city’s historic Firestone Building in downtown KC. Guests are able bid on unique wines from Kansas City’s foremost private collectors in the silent and live auctions while tasting wines from around the world. Everyone will be treated to delicious delectables provided by Dean & Deluca!
So, what’s the connection, you might ask? Sassafras Marketing President, Geoff Holton, had a wonderful aunt, Rosalie Wolf, who passed away this year. She had Down syndrome. We really do honor Rosalie, her vibrant, independent life and her legacy each time we do work on behalf of The Down Syndrome Guild or attend the event itself. This organization means a great deal to the Holtons and we are blessed that the whole Sassafras crew has embraced it as well.
